Surrealist Manifesto
Below is an anonymous curator review of a current series of mine, Surrealist Manifesto. "You have a surreal, layered body of work here. There is a tonal quality to your grays that feels otherworldly. You have a visual language that is deployed well across the work. The consistency of vision is both impressive and engaging. You open and close the series well. The final image has a softness, a feeling of being both an end and another beginning. At the moment it feels like a steady build up to something but I wonder how else you might experiment? The forth image brings to mind Joel Peter Witkin's work. The movement is captured well, there is a feeling of solarization or a graphite like quality to the image. The eyes on the canvas in the back once seen feel as if they track the viewer across the image. The sixth image has a similar feeling as if captured in some in-between world or space. Additionally images such as these two which feel filled with detail and atmosphere are the standouts of the set for me. There are whole worlds hinted at in which to immerse oneself in. In your eighth image there is a softness to the atmosphere that is punctuated by the humor and strangeness of the Marilyn cutout. These bits of humor feel sly and odd, they open up the series with some buoyancy. The framing of your ninth image is fantastic - he seems to glow within the narrow confines of the image. What sticks with me is how assured and consistent your artistic perspective is. There is an undeniable point of view in this work and it feels both fresh and steeped in modern art historical cues." I have since been adding other images to the process.
